Let them eat cake [at the Oyster Box]

So in December, while us vaalies decended on Durbs, we went to the Oyster Box for High tea for my mum's  birthday. what a delicious day we had!

The Oyster Box was originally built in 1947 and was said to be a the Zulu Kings favourite haut. The hotel, as well as its three restaurants reopened in October 2009 after a two-year refit. The interior remains loyal to its colonial roots and the original charms still remains in its redecoration.

The Oyster Box has three restaurants with sea views and the Ocean Terrace has been decorated in colonial style in keeping with the origins of the hotel: clean white marble floors, white interior coving and turquoise Turkish hand painted tiles which frame the wood oven on the back wall. There is a stunning veranda which opens out onto a balcony which has uninterrupted views of the ocean.

M.o.M (Market on Main) with Mom

I have been dying to go to Market on Main, i feel like i am the only human in joburg who hasn't been to this gem. WHAT a gem it is! Joburg city centre has all these little quirky places tucked away in the concrete jungle. My mum and i popped in today just to sus it out, and we LOVED it, definitely will be going back for lunch, chill on the grass in the shade and all the yummies that it has to offer! i do love my city. and it surprises me with beauties like Market on Main!

Ah Arts on Main, with a little Canteen and a Bioscope. what a winner!!

its blurred. im sad. but this is for my sister.

Songs in 3D

So a field that im very interested in is Visual Merchandising. This entails window display design and window dressing. In South Africa the market is very non existent due to the lack of money. There are a few stores who do get it right, but this is purely because they are international brands and have to stay in tune with the brand image. Diesel and Louis Vuitton are two brands that i am always interested in seeing their new displays.

Selfridges on Oxford Street, London (my new home in just over a month. eeeek.) had a fun and engaging window display recently where they worked together with ten current musicians where they were asked to visualise their hit songs in 3D. Selfridges then went a step further and held a competition where the public were to guess what song each window represented. What fun. Here are a few of my favourites, can you guys guess which songs and artists these are? Results to be posted tomorrow :)

Have fun !!!

Light Up

Yes, it has been a while and im back feeling inspired!
In the latest issue of the VISI magazine (Issue 53) this A4 exclusive Heath Nash designer lamp has been bagged in each magazine. Heath Nash designs lamps using what other people view as rubbish and reuses and modifies into art works.

i just love his designs. the way the light interacts with the light and the space around it, the shadows that are cast and how the light reflect and creates a mood on the light fitting itself.there is just soemthing so structured and organic about his work that i love: how something that looks strong and sturdy can have that organic and soft nature about it, how the light itself serves as a sculptural piece in a space but also how the light reflected also changes the atmosphere and mood of a space.

i love this lamps simplicity and sophistication and follows the trend of recycling and thinking in a sustainable manner, even if it is something you dont consider.

For step-by-step instructions for getting started with this lamp, visit here. Remember to us a CFL energy-saving lightbulb :)  Send your the pictures of you lamp in place to VISI  Enjoy! im off to buy multiple copies of VISI
